Weekend Wrapup

We had friends of ours up for the weekend from Greenville, SC. They have been friends with Scot for years when he lived in Florida and we are so happy that they live even closer so that we can get together at least once a month. They are Ryder's "Aunt" Lisa and "Uncle" Don, and I'm sure as Ryder gets older, he will be getting a lot of practice snowboarding and wakeboarding with them.
We had a really good time together, and went out for mexican as usual, but this time we headed uptown Charlotte to LaPaz. It was nice to get out of our little bubble and venture out into the city like old times. Ha I sound like a country bumkin but when you have a baby, you don't get to go to the places you did before. My parents were happy to watch Ryder overnight and we were happy to hand him over for the night. He even slept through the night for them!(Thankyou mom & Jeff!!)
I had to add these pictures to the mix because I thought they were too cute! By the time that I get home from work, Ryder is usually dressed in his sleep sack so I don't get to enjoy him in his little outfits much, and just had to get a picture of him.

Well, I hope that all of you had a good weekend too!

Birthday Wishes

After last night, I told Scot that I would expect the same treatment every year for my birthday. He did a great job with the dinner and I was so impressed that I thought for sure he had hired a professional chef to cook! I ended up having the day off this year which was nice to relax and enjoy my birthday. I had a few errands to run in the morning, but then my mom, brother and his fiancee met us to go out to eat to celebrate. Unfortunately my stepdad was home sick and unable to join us, but was still there in spirit. (Hope you feel better, Jeff!)
As a tradition growing up, we could always choose to have either a "bakery cake" from the grocery store, or have my mom bake us a special cake from scratch. This year I had been craving coconut cake, so I asked my mom to make one for me, and she outdid herself this year. It was HEAVEN on a plate! Yes I turned 26 this year, so I am officially headed downhill for 30. I got some great gifts from everyone (thankyou very much!!) and am excited about my giftcard to Belk to get some clothes for our upcoming cruise. I will definitely be on the lookout for sales!
Since Eric and Tori's wedding is next weekend, it was the topic of conversation and they are really getting excited about their big day! I can't believe that April is already here almost. I will be posting on their special day soon so stay tuned!
I decided that I wanted to eat at Lone Star steakhouse since they have a variety, and everyone seemed happy with that. We tried to get Ryder settled before we left but he was very curious about all the commotion that was going on, and was not interested in sleeping in the least bit.
Ryder loves his aunt "TT" and "Unkie E"
It wouldn't be a restaurant birthday meal without the employees coming out to sing Happy Birthday. They brought me a HUGE brownie sundae which was delish! Of course Ryder was overwhelmed by the loud singing so he started wailing. Overall, it was a great birthday and I love you all for celebrating with me.

Happy Scrapbooking

I was SO happy to come home yesterday and find a birthday package waiting for me from Scot's aunt and uncle from New Hampshire. (Thankyou so much!!) I had mentioned that I would love to scrapbook sometime but just didn't know where to start. This is partly why I began blogging in the first place, because I wanted to keep family and friends updated on what we were doing and to keep a "virtual" memory scrapbook to remember events by. I was very happy to open my package and inside was my very own scrapbook. She even started the pages for me! I am so excited to get started and capture all the memories from Ryder's birth and the coming events of the year.Today was Ryder's 4-month well visit at the Pediatrician's office. I had to work today but Scot took him for me and later gave me the report. He is definitely feeling better and has almost recovered from his cold, so they went ahead with his shots (poor guy!) He is above average in his length which was no surprise to us since we are both tall. We get to start feeding him rice cereal for breakfast everyday and then in a few weeks we can move onto baby food. As you all saw from the video recently, he is not a fan of spoon feeding yet, but just like tummy time, or his Bumbo chair, we just have to keep trying it and eventually he gets the hang of it.
Since we were celebrating my birthday with family the following night, Scot decided to surprise me with his contribution when I came home from work. You have to understand that we are fans of Gordon Ramsey and his hit show "Hell's Kitchen" on FOX. This inspired Scot to make me a gourmet meal complete with balloons, candles, and champagne. The video below is what I got to come home to :)

Super Saturday

Since Ryder had been sick for a few days, Scot finally took him to the Pediatrician's office yesterday, especially since there had been 2 reported cases of RSV at his daycare. We were happy to report that he only had a common cold and it should clear up in the next few days. This was the little man after his long day at the Dr's office.
Since I had received some sweet Birthday cards in the mail from my mother and father-in-law (Thankyou!!), and Aunt's and Uncle's, I decided since Ryder was feeling better that we could go to the mall so I could buy some new MAC eyeshadow. I also needed to buy some gold heels for my brother Eric's upcoming wedding. While we were at the mall, we happened to come across the Easter Bunny and we couldn't resist having Ryder's picture made. He wasn't as smiley as he had been for our portraits taken a few weeks ago, but at least he didn't cry!

4 Months Today!

At 8:06 pm tonight, my little bundle that is beginning to grow like a weed, will turn 4 months old! I can't believe that he will be that old already. I am able to appreciate all those sleepless nights, diaper changes, spitting up, peeing in the air midstream while getting a diaper change, fussiness where nothing soothes him, all the scared nights wondering silently to myself "Does it get easier"?? I am able to appreciate all of those things because now I realize that whatever I am doing must be working because he is a happy and healthy baby and we couldn't ask for more. I love being with him in the morning before I go to work, and as I'm feeding him, he's watching me, and knows who I am, and he gives the warmest, most innocent smile in the world that melts my heart.

I'm kind of sad that we are leaving those newborn days behind and entering the next phase of "babyhood". It made me realize that I need to slow down and enjoy the moments as we go through them because they will just as quickly go by. However, I know that I have my share of frustrations ahead that will include teething, potty training, and first days of school which none I am prepared for. Ryder has been such a blessing to have and I am so proud of all of his accomplishments in his 4 short months of life!
This all came to a head when we woke up this morning to notice our freezer/refrigerator was not working properly. What does that have to do with a baby you ask? Well, because I have months of frozen breastmilk in our freezer and the thought of it all melting and being ruined would be too much to bare. All of those long days of pumping and pumping going to waste. This also made me realize that because Ryder is 4 months old today he is no longer breastfeeding and those frozen bags are the last of my memories of the bond we shared while breastfeeding. Well thats all for now! Have a good day everyone. love Laura
btw- the last pic is Ryder crying bc the refridgerator broke haha

Happy St Patrick's Day

In the true spirit of St Patrick's Day, I decided to write this post in green. Sorry in advance if it's hard to read. After posting for the month of March, I have realized that this is a VERY busy month for the Gelinas household. Between birthdays (both Scot and I), the month Scot & I met, St Patrick's Day, even Easter is celebrated sometimes during March, but it is all MUCH more fun having this little guy around to share all of these things with and see them through his eyes for the first time.
We have had a nice week so far, even though Ryder is suffering from "the Croup". He started rattling in his chest on Friday and by today it has advanced into a bad cough. He had a temp of 100 Sunday night but after sleeping in the room with his humidifier and getting 2 steam treatments, he seems to be feeling better. As a new mommy, this has been especially hard for me to sit back helpless and let the cold run it's course. Unfortunately there isn't much you can give a baby of his age and it makes it that much harder to watch as he suffers.
I will say that last night Ryder did sleep through the night, so we all felt rested this morning. I dressed him in green and got him all ready for daycare while Scot and I went to the gym. After all the eating we did this past weekend we were both due for some cardio! Since it has rained non-stop for the past few days I thought that we needed some flowers to "brighten" things up, so I saw these when I was grocery shopping and couldn't resist. They used to be my favorite flower as a little girl, so it was fun to be nostalgic. Well I'm off to finish doing my chores around the house and enjoy the rest of my day off, and if Ryder is feeling up to it, maybe even go for a walk. I hope everyone is having a good week so far and a Happy St Patrick's Day!

-Question Of The Day-"What is YOUR favorite flower??"

Birthday Boy Part II

Well, the Saturday night festivities continued by going to Tapas1 to eat dinner and celebrate Scot's birthday. We had tapas once before on a trip to Asheville and we liked the idea of it. Good food and you don't feel overstuffed afterwards. We shared Jerk Chicken with sweet potatoes, Pan-seared scallops, and Pork Empanadas. Delish!
Of course we had to split our favorite dessert in the world..Creme Brulee :) We had a great night together and shared a lot of laughs. The pictures didn't come out so good due to the lighting but we had a fun time and I wanted to take pictures to remember the night even though everyone around us probably wondered why we were taking so many pictures haha.
Scot had a wonderful birthday and he deserved it! He is an amazing husband and father and I am so blessed to have him. (I love you sweetie!!) I hope to share many more birthdays together as we travel this journey of life.

Birthday Boy Part 1

Friday night was finally here, and after the week we had, and with Scot's Birthday here, we decided to try feeding Ryder rice cereal to help him sleep through the night. He has been very fussy lately, possibly due to a 4 month growth spurt, and we just wanted him to feel satisfied during his night feedings. Check out the video below to see him in action last night!
video
This was us this morning after a lovely night of restless sleep. (Obviously the rice cereal was useless and Ryder is definitely going through a growth spurt because he ate 10 oz or more mixed with the cereal). I woke up to make Scot's "Extreme Monkey Bread" that my friend Emilie recommended and it turned out DELICIOUS! (Thankyou Em)! Scot had requested this instead of Birthday cake so I was happy to give it a try.
As you can see I had to add some festive "Happy Birthday" candles for the Birthday Boy. I think he was happy with the results haha. With help from Ryder, he blew out his candles and was ready to dig in and open his presents.
My parents came over to give Scot his birthday gifts and then we headed to Lancaster's for some good southern Fried Chicken and Eastern-style BBQ. Since we were celebrating tonight by having a date night, Ryder got to go home with his Nana and Paw Paw (thankyou)!!

Well we are off to our date! To Be Continued...

Countdown to "Freedom" Of the Seas

Well, it has been a good week so far. I have stuck with my motivational mood and have worked out everyday this week. I know it's only 3 days in a row, but after having Ryder, it's all I can do to get 2 days in a whole week in. Excuses excuses right? Anyways, I know that in less than a month I have a wedding that I am in and as of today, Scot and I went online to check the status of our cruise that we have booked and realized that in 60 sweet days, we will be boarding this beauty. We are so excited because last year, we had planned two vacations and decided that it would be our time to travel as a married couple. Well, life decided to throw us a curveball and we were blessed with a sweet baby boy named Ryder instead, so long story short, the vacations got cancelled, because who really wants to be on a cruise pregnant? Rather than losing our deposit we decided to re-book the cruise for this year in May and we are starting to get excited about it! This also means that I only HAVE 60 sweet days to get in shape for it.

Until then, I will enjoy the warm weather we are having and hopefully continue to stay motivated at the gym. Poor Scot practically had to PUSH me to go this morning, but when it was all done and I realized what a good workout I had, I felt like a new woman.

Well, Hope everyone is having a good week so far! Have a good night :)

Motivated Monday

So the weekend turned out really nice and we ended up going to church yesterday. The devil was really working us though and while we were outside the church waiting in our car for the service to start, because lets face it, when you are the "new person" you get kinda nervous and feel awkward to just stand around inside not knowing anyone, we almost turned around and went home, but then we faced our fears and went inside.
It was a very cute church and everyone was extremely welcoming and nice, and it was very small compared to what we were used to, but that didn't matter. We were there to listen to God's word and enjoy the service. The message was "Do No Harm", and after thinking about the past weekend, I became motivated to "do no harm" by trying to workout and get in shape, by doing no harm to my body, and on a personal level I began thinking about certain relationships that I am unsettled about in my life, and wondering how I would mend them. We liked everything there but decided to continue our search for next week, until we found our fit.

I didn't have any pictures from today but thought that I would share some from when my cousin came down recently to meet Ryder in person and to bring him an ADORABLE quilt that she handmade. (LOVE it Carol Sue!!) I also threw in some pictures I took of him a few weeks ago in his 'Don't wake me..' onesie and jeans. Well, I'm still not used to the time change so I am headed off to bed to catch to get some sleep since my little monkey will waking up soon for his feeding. Hope everyone had a nice weekend and I will talk to you soon!

Saturday Wrapup

Like clockwork, I woke up around 2:30 am this morning to see if the baby monitor was on my side of the bed. You see, Scot and I take turns with late night feedings and I saw that it was still on his side, which meant that Ryder had yet to wake up. I thought this was odd, as he usually gets up by that point for his feeding. Fortunately he had decided to sleep through the night, but try telling that to my "internal clock".
Needless to say, even after not sleeping much last night, we still had a wonderful day today. We took Ryder and Tucker for a walk around the lake in Davidson since God gave us such a beautiful day. Hard to believe there was snow on the ground this morning! It ended up being a high of 70's and I even think Scot got a little sunburned.
Ryder couldn't have BEEN any cuter in his little sun hat. It's still a little big on him but it did the trick to block the sun out from his sensitive eyes and skin- poor guy has two parents with fair skin and blue eyes so he is destined to get burned if we aren't careful. Hopefully it will come in handy this summer though and will fit much better by then!
We got home and then later headed to my brother and fiance's for dinner and to hang out with them for awhile. It was great food-tacos YUM- and great company, and we had a lot of laughs together. Just 3 more weeks or so before their BIG day! Well, it's late for the Gelinas household as we try to get to sleep by 10, especially since we lose an hr tonight due to Daylight Savings Time and the fact that we are attempting to attend the 9am church service tomorrow. I think a good dose of church will do us all good!
Goodnight and YAY for Daylight Savings :)

Thursday Thursday

Well after all the excitement from our snow day the past few days, it was back to work in the "real world" yesterday. It was fun to spend a lot of family time together though! The snow has almost all melted and the roads are back to normal just in time for the 70 degree weather we are supposed to get this weekend!
Not much is going on today so I thought that I would share a few pictures from when Scot's aunt Sandi and uncle Tobey were here. I just LOVE that little face! I'm excited that we are going to church this Sunday as a family and hoping that Ryder will be on best behavior and not start crying during
It wouldn't be a fair post if I didnt't include a picture of my fur baby too!It looks like Ryder is sticking out his tongue in this picture! He has been drooling a lot more lately and we are beginning to think that he is starting to begin the early stages of teething. I pray that he doesn't inherit my "missing teeth" gene (hence the lovely braces I'm wearing haha)
And last but not least, I included a picture of Ryder playing his favorite game with his daddy where Scot will say "Who's the baby, are YOU the baby" in a high pitched voice and it gets him to start squealing for joy. It's the cutest thing!! I have noticed that he is getting much more vocal lately and I swear last night when I was making his bottles for daycare, I was saying "Ryder" and he started mimicking me with a bunch of "R" babble. I can't wait until he starts talking!
Well thats all for now! At least tomorrow is Friday and the weekend is fastly approaching. Happy Thursday :)

Snow Day

I would have posted earlier but our internet has been down due to the weather I guess. Our power did go off a few times but luckily came back on. This was the snow in action as it fell Sunday night. It was really pretty but my camera didn't do it justice.

We ended up waking to about 6 inches of white powder! It was our first "real" snow of the season, even though the night we brought Ryder home from the hospital, Scot swore it snowed that night but I just thought I heard wrong due to lack of sleep.

We dressed in layers and headed outside with Tucker and Ryder and tried to take pictures. Poor Tucker was so confused as to what the white stuff was that he would sniff it and then realized it was cold. He didn't like it very much because his little paws were freezing by this point.

Ryder didn't like the cold either, and the sun was even brighter because it was bouncing off the snow which caused him to start fussing. We decided to go inside to see if we had the ingredients to make "snow cream" and then give the snow another try later.

After talking on the phone with Scot's dad, who was checking to see if were buried under the snow, we came back outside and decided to give our backyard a try. It didn't seem as sunny at first, and Ryder was in a better mood to take pictures

This was the smiling face after coming back inside to a warm house. We decided that Ryder is still young for the Winter Olympics, but maybe next year ha!

It wasn't long before we all tired out from our lazy snow day together. We ended up going to bed early and cuddling since it was so cold out!
Hope that everyone had a nice weekend and I'm so glad that our internet is finally back up so that I could share the pictures with you all.
